CatSIG is looking for some new committee members

Thank you to those who attended the AGM. We had one volunteer to join the committee. Thank you Anoushka McGuire. We are looking for one or two more people to join the committee and share the workload. If you are looking for new opportunities for you professional registration journal this is a good option. Below is some information on what is involved in being on the committee. There is not a huge amount of work involved. We have one/two meetings per year by phone. The rest of the committee business is carried out by email. Each person is responsible for one/two area of the committee's work: * CatSIG information on the LIANZA website. This information needs to be kept up-to-date and any new information about training opportunities added. * CatSIG gmail list. This needs to be monitored to ensure emails are responded to promptly. Usually general queries or applications for sponsorship or training course we are running. * CatSIG's representative on the DescribeNZ wiki moderators group. A meeting is held every two months, the person needs to look at the wiki and contribute ideas on content and ways to continue to improve it. This can be done in conjunction with other members of the committee. * Listserv "bounce". The listserv automatically generates an email when someone subscribes or unsubscribes to the listserv these are bounced to an email address rather than going out to every listserv member. Likewise, any email sent to the listserv by someone NOT subscribed to the listserv also bounces. Emails from non-subscribers are forwarded to the list. * Secretary - taking minutes in meetings * Treasurer - sign off on invoices for payment along with another member of the committee and forward these to LIANZA for payment, and send out invoices for any training sessions we run using a template. Ngā Ūpoko Tukutuku Māori Subject headings update, October 2014

Tena tatou katoa We are pleased to announce that Nga Upoko Tukutuku, the Maori Subject Headings project has completed another upload of new kaupapa/terms. These terms came from the work of Te Whakakaokao, the Maori Subject Headings Working Group, at hui held in May and August 2014. There are 35 new MSH that have been added to Nga Upoko Tukutuku and are ready for use in library catalogues. These terms include: • The terms relating to maps have been revised and expanded. Mahere (charts and maps), now includes the narrower terms Mahere whenua (land maps), Mahere moana (navigational maps) and Mahere whetu (astronomical charts). • Wahine (women) now includes a new Heke/Narrower term of Te Awa Atua which encompasses menstruation. This in turn has a new related term of Hinetitama, who is the daughter of Hineahuone and Tane, and the first human person to be born. • The terms relating to people have been expanded. Tangata now includes the additional narrower terms of Hautipua kaita (physical giants), Kaitangata , (cannibalism), and Kotiro (girls). • Tauiwi, which is used to describe different nationalities, has a new narrower term of Pakeha, which refers to New Zealanders of European descent. • Two new terms have been added in the context of language revitalisation. These are Rautaki reo, which is used for language strategy, and Whakaora reo, which describes language revival. CatSIG AGM at 2014 LIANZA Conference

Dear Cataloguing colleague, If you are going to be in Auckland on Tuesday 14th October, please come along to the CatSIG AGM which is being held in conjunction with the 2014 LIANZA conference. You do not need a conference registration to attend the meeting, and are welcome to bring colleagues with you who are not yet CatSIG members. You are welcome to bring your lunch and eat it during the meeting. The AGM business will be followed by two speakers from the National Library of New Zealand, Anoushka McGuire and Sandra McKenzie on an introduction to BibFrame for cataloguers.
