AIML420 Essay (6%)

  • Pick up TWO AI topics that you want to do deeper literature review and send them to me along with 2-3 representative associated paper information (authors, paper title, publication venue and year);
  • Heitor will decide the topic between the two topics you send taking into account its difficulty and the existing related work. If you have a specific reason for preferring one of the topics, discuss it in the email.
  • Send the topics to Heitor: heitor.gomes@vuw.ac.nz;
  • After conducting your literature review and reading more papers, you should proceed to write the literature review essay and ultimately submit it to the online submission system.
  • The essay should be about 1000-2000 words.
You can follow the structure of any survey/review paper published in good journals that you find online. One example structure can have the following Sections:
  • Introduction
  • Background
  • Your summary of the field (should categorise the work, and divide into several sub-sections)
  • Challenges and Future Directions
  • Conclusions
  • References
Plagiarism is NOT allowed!

- You CANNOT copy/paste content from the papers you read into your essay!

- Check the plagiarism webpage from the University in here.

- Notice that submitting the same work in more than one course is considered plagiarism, if you are planning on using the same topic in two courses, you should definitely talk to Heitor before proceeding.

- If you are uncertain about what qualifies as plagiarism in a specific case, send an email to Heitor before proceeding.

- You will get 0 marks if we find plagiarism.

- Refrain from using ChatGPT or any other AI tools to compose your essay. While you may utilize these tools to review and refine your writing, but it is imperative that you do not rely on them to generate content for you. If you are unsure about the appropriateness of using a particular tool, please reach out to Heitor via email before proceeding.
