Abstract

Embodied empathic agents are characters that, by their actions and behaviours, are able to show empathy. In this talk i discuss the concept of an empathic agent with specific application to the EMOTE project, funded by the EU to develop an empathic robot tutor. Questions discussed will include: what theories and formalisms can provide a framework? How far do these work when applied in practice? When is empathy useful in a tutoring agent? How far did EMOTE succeed?
