Abstract

Founded in 1906, the IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) is the world’s leading organization for the preparation and publication of International Standards for all electrical, electronic and related technologies. IEC provides a platform to companies, industries and governments for meeting, discussing and developing the International Standards they require. UOP is being promoted by IEC to achieve two objectives: The first objective is to integrate international standardization activities into university research and development. International standardization and Conformity Assessment play an essential role in spreading technological developments worldwide and increasing the adoption of new technologies through guarantees in safety, performance, and interoperability. Many technologies that are used in industry, commerce, and daily life are created not only by industries but also by universities. However, education in international standardization is not well established at universities. Increasing the exposure of international standardization to universities can therefore help bring technological advances to the world market. The second objective is to promote the understanding of international standardization in universities to students. University students will perform a wide variety of occupations and roles in the future. This lecture series raises the profile of international standardization and their role in many industries. Additionally, knowledge about international standardization will help the individual students in their future career.
