    • Sustainable Interaction Design: Invention & Disposal, Renewal & Reuse
    • Summary: We had a rousing discussion of the relationship between sustainability and software/hardware design. The paper was largely used as a touch-stone, though everyone had read it. The central issue seemed to revolve around whether it was (unchangeable) human nature to want to consume, leading to an impasse concerning sustainable technology because of the market economy preferring the development of new stuff. Can consumers become sustainable? This is, obviously, a problem related to all human consumption, but it was interesting to think about it in our own context because, as the paper discusses, people tend to think of software as neutral and having no real environmental footprint.
