E-Research Workshop

Date: 4 May 2012

Time: 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Venue: AM101

e-Research has been described as the use of ICT to carry out better research faster. It can also enable research that was not possible a decade or two ago. Victoria has a number of resources that are designed to be components of an e-Research environment - a Silicon Graphics high performance computer, several grids of desktop computers, a research storage facility, a three by four screen display able to act as a single screen and video conferencing. Currently these resources sit outside of the standard university framework and require a special effort to use.

The Director of e-Research and ITS are convening an e-Research workshop to enable researchers to discuss the problems they currently encounter using ICT to advance their research and to develop a vision of an ICT framework that would be effective in supporting research. While the workshop will include short presentations on developments at the national level, such as the National e-Science Infrastructure and services at Victoria, the emphasis will be on an interactive discussion about researcher's needs.

This workshop is intended to be the first step towards creating a sustainable vision for e-Research throughout the University that will lead to much improved ICT support for your research in the future. Staff and students involved in research which makes use of ICT are strongly urged to attend.
