COMP112: Getting Help and the FAQ

Topics: Forum, FAQ, Getting online help, Videos

Forum

The forum is an excellent way of getting help on many issues and problems to do with COMP112. However, it isn't a good way of getting detailed help on a problem in your assignment code if the person helping needs to see the details of your code - We don't want you to post parts of your assignment code on the forum, since (even if it isn't correct yet) that may give away the answers to other students who are still working on it.

FAQ

We plan to build up a list of answers to common problems that we see repeatedly:

Asking for help from online tutor

To ask for help from the tutors on a problem with your code, submit your request on the comp112 help system (put your question in the box, attach your file, and click "Create Ticket") or email your question to mailto:comp112-help@ecs.vuw.ac.nz and attach your code to the email.
Make sure that:
  • You have attached your .java files
  • You have explained what the problem is and what you have tried to do to solve it so far.
A tutor will try to answer your question (when they are next on line and available).
Note: We don't provide help for Challenge questions.

Video resources

  • Video recordings of the lectures are available through Blackboard: browse to COMP112 in Blackboard and click on ‘EchoCenter’ in the course menu.

NOTE If you want to watch the videos in the labs, you will need to bring along your own headphones.
