Thesis Examination
- The PhD Thesis examination process is currently handled by the Faculty office up to the point that the examiners' reports have arrived. Organising the oral examination is currently delegated to the School. The Postgraduate Thesis Coordinator (with the supervisors and HoS) will organise the oral exam. The oral exam panel typically includes a chair (the HoS or his nominee), the internal examiner, and the NZ external examiner. Questions proposed by the overseas external examiner will be asked/presented by the internal examiner. The supervisors will normally also be present in the oral exam but should not answer questions unless the panel members ask. Details of the oral examination are in the VUW PhD policy.
- The MSc thesis examination process is currently handled by the School (delegated by the Faculty). After receiving two copies of the submitted thesis and the supervisors' statement, the Thesis Coordinator will send the thesis, with a cover letter and further information to the examiners for examination. After receiving the examiners' reports, the Thesis Coordinator will give copies to the supervisors who may write a supervisor's report. The thesis coordinator will then call a graduate committee meeting to discuss and make recommendations to the Associate Dean. Further details of the Master thesis examination process can be seen from Masters Examination Policy.
- At the time of submission of the PhD and MSc thesis, the student should send a PDF version of the thesis to the following web submission systems:
- After an MSc or PhD thesis passed/examined, the final version of the thesis in PDF version should be sent to the above web submission systems to update their theses if necessary.
