Research Interests:

Nathan builds tools which make it easier for classically trained, and electro-acoustically trained, composers to write music for ANY mechatronic ensemble in the manner in which they are trained. Nathan also builds "spectral" mechatronic instruments which are composed for using spectral-composition techniques. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of his research, Nathan's supervisors are split between the New Zealand School of Music and the School of Engineering and Computer Science. Nathan publishes his research findings in Art, Design, Computer Music, HCI, and IxD peer-review conferences and journals.

Biography:

Nathan hails from California. He received his AA in music from Laney College and his BFA/MFA in Music Technology from California Institute of the Arts. He has worked as a researcher for Kadenze Inc. and currently holds the position of Senior Lecturer at the California College of the Arts where he teaches for the Interaction Design Program. Nathan founded and acts as president of NVS Tech, a creative technology contracting company.
