Meeting the Needs of Students with Impairments

Meeting the Needs of Students with Impairments

The University has a policy on meeting the needs of students with impairments. The policy aims to give students with impariments or disabilities the same opportunity as other students to demonstrate their abilities, without compromising academic standards, the essential nature of courses or what are deemed to be essential skills or knoweldge in relation to the course.

If you have a disability, impairment, or chronic medical condition (temporary, permanent or recurring) that may impact on your ability to participate, learn and/or achieve in lectures and tutorials or in meeting the course requirements, then please contact the course coordinator as early in the course as possible. Alternatively you may wish to approach a Student Adviser from Disability Support Services (DSS) to discuss your individual needs and the available options and support on a confidential basis. Disability Support Services are located on Level 1, Robert Stout Building, or phoning 463-6070, email: disability@vuw.ac.nz.

The School of Engineering and Computer Science is committed to ensuring that all students have an equal opportunity to participate in their courses within the School. Computer Science is particularly committed to making every effort to reasonably accommodate all students requiring access to laboratory facilities to complete their work.

Students with special needs should contact Disability Support Services, the Head of School, or the course organiser as soon as possible. In the past, we have worked successfully with Disability Support Services to provide a variety of solutions for students with special needs.
