Our group has particular strengths in real-time computer graphics, virtual reality, character animation, rendering, computational photography, image and video analysis and editing, parametrization of 3D surfaces, modelling 3D curves and surfaces, 3D TV, the aesthetics of graphics, and visual perception. Our computer graphics researchers teach courses in the undergraduate and postgraduate computer graphics programmes developed in conjunction with visual effects studio Weta, game developer PikPok (Sidhe), and advanced technology company Unlimited Realities.

Group institutions

The group is split across two institutions at Victoria University of Wellington

Wellington — the Creative Capital of New Zealand

We work within the active ecosystem of Wellington's creative community. Within the University, we collaborate with the Miramar Creative Centre, the School of Design, the School of English, Film, Theatre, and Media Studies and the School of Psychology.

Wellington is home to the Weta group of companies, including Weta Digital, Weta Workshop, and Park Road Post Production. New Zealand has a dynamic AR/VR environment, including MIXT Studios and 8i in Wellington. Wellington is home to the largest New Zealand game company, PikPok.

More broadly, Wellington is known as the coolest little capital in the world. It is the home of Te Papa (the national museum and art gallery), Royal NZ Ballet, State Opera, NZ Symphony Orchestra, several professional theatres, and the New Zealand School of Music. Wellington is a city brimming with creative talent.
