24 May
Hmmm... its 0100 and I have submitted my comp466 essay. Now for some bitt489

I have gone onto the w3schools site and printed out the XML schema pages, which I will try to read over the next few hours.
I have a good idea what I want to do for the abstract HCI schema but need to know how to do it in XML.
Hopefully, I will have time to create a draft schema but at 0300-0400 I want to head home for a few hours sleep.
0315 - I have created a
draft schema which I have been
validating (only the validator and valid MCS users can view this file)
11 May
I have completed my first draft (at some horrendous hour - 2100). Stuart assisted me with my second draft (which is greatly appreciated). I made the changes suggested, which I hope will be feasible to implement for the second part of the project.
I have submitted the report on time
For the next week, I will be doing marking and helpdesks for comp306.
09 May
I have begun writing my milestone report. LaTeX has been causing me problems with BibTeX (which Vipul has helped me fix - thanks so much Vips

).
I hope to get a first draft off tonight.
08 May
I have had a meeting with Stuart and Alex. I have an idea of the direction of this project, but the meeting had conflicting views which doesn't make it completely clear. At the moment who cares... I have a milestone to write.
06 May
My tooth has been fixed, yet I am still a little frustrated...
sigh.
I have read a few papers and taken a brief look at Andrew Newport's work from over summer.
I am keen to discuss my findings with Alex and Stuart on Monday.
04 May
I missed my meeting with Stuart and Alex. I decided to take a day out as I had a emotional breakdown last night.
I have had such a bad week, and I have just chipped my tooth at Memphis sports...
I hope to get some work done by Monday but we'll see...
02 May
I have run
CanonSketch on the OSX systems. NEVER use a Mac mouse! I created a simple diagram that models part of a GUI I am developing for Alex. The
file produced is not an XML file (which is what we were trying to find out).
01 May
I attempted to access the Mac-lab in CO250 but was locked (maybe because it is night

). I will attempt to access the lab tomorrow.
I have partially read through a GOMS paper. I have found that GOMS is a task analysis tool that focuses on specific knowledge of tasks (use cases), which requires exact information on what a user is trying to achieve. The information produced by this tool is related to performance of a user interacting a GUI. Such information like time for a user to perform a task, or learning time. I believe that the construction of a GOMS model from a Java GUI will be difficult due to the limited task information we can extract from it. I also think that some of the performance metrics that can be extract from GOMS we will be extracting through an actual user interfacting with a GUI.
I would like to pursue this further with Stuart and Alex before I continue research into GOMS.
