NWEN 241: 2019 Trimester 1

 

4 June 2019:

  • Blackboard Quiz #5 (last quiz!) will be available starting Wednesday (5 June) 13:00 until Friday (7 June) 23:59.

  • Marks for the 4th programming assignment is expected to be released on Thursday. A sample solution will be posted in the course wiki. E-mail when be sent out when the marks are available.

  • Sue and I will be conducting Q&A Sessions outside lecture hours. The main purpose of the sessions is to help you prepare for the final exam. The sessions will be unstructured, i.e., topics to be discussed will be based on your questions. They will be held in CO246. Below are the upcoming sessions:

    4 June (11am-12nn): Sue
    6 June (9-10am): Alvin
    10 June (2-3pm): Alvin
    11 June (11am-12nn): Sue

  • Last lecture on 5 June.

20 May 2019:

  • Assignment #5 (the last one!) is out. Please download the handout and sample test code from this page: https://ecs.victoria.ac.nz/Courses/NWEN241_2019T1/Assignments. Frequently asked questions and answers about this assignment will be posted in the same page.

  • Blackboard Quiz #4 will be available starting Wednesday (22 May) 13:00 until Friday (24 May) 23:59.

  • Marks for the third programming assignment is expected to be released on Wednesday. A sample solution will be posted in the course wiki. E-mail when be sent out when the marks are available.

  • The lecturers will be conducting Q&A sessions to help you prepare for the final exam on Weeks 11, 12, and the study week. Details will be sent in a separate e-mail within this week.

  • Blackboard Quiz #2 will be available starting Wednesday (3 April) 13:00 until Friday (5 April) 23:59. Unlike Quiz #1, the test will not be timed. You can start, pause, and resume anytime until Friday (5 April) 23:59.
  • The mid-term test this year will be on 11 April from 18:00-18:45. The test will cover Weeks 1 to 4 (lectures and tutorials). Below is the seating arrangement (based on your student ID):

  • Helpdesk sessions will start today. Please see https://ecs.victoria.ac.nz/Courses/NWEN241_2019T1/Helpdesk for more details.
  • Technical issues were encountered with the recording of Tutorial 2. Kirita is re-making the video and will upload it within this week.
  • The first Blackboard Quiz will be released on Wednesday, 20 March at around 13:00. It will be open until 23:59 Friday, 22 March. An e-mail will be sent out once the quiz is ready for you to take.

4 March 2019: Sign-up for Computer Lab Session

Computer lab sessions will be conducted on Week 2 for those who want know more about Linux programming environment. Each session will be approximately 1 hour and will conducted in CO 246. It will cover the following topics:
  • Basic Linux shell commands
  • Compiling with gcc and g++
  • Debugging with gdb
  • Working remotely
  • Transferring files
